Education
Dr. Rebecca Porter earned her BS in Physical Therapy from Indiana University, her MS in Allied Health Education from Indiana University in Philadelphia, and her PhD in Medical Neurobiology from Indiana University.
Teaching Experience
Porter had been a member of the Indiana University Department of Physical Therapy faculty since 1977. Her teaching concentration has been in the areas of life span neurologic rehabilitation and pathology, motor learning and motor control, neuroscience, and research methods. She has mentored doctoral and masters students in their research.
Her teaching responsibilities at IU are related to motor control and motor learning.
Clinical Interests
Porter's clinical experience has focused on neurologic rehabilitation of children and adults in a variety of settings.
Research Interests
Due to her primary responsibilities as Executive Director of Enrollment Services and Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Services at IUPUI, Porter is not engaged in active research related to Physical Therapy at this time.
Professional
Porter has served as the Treasurer of the Neurology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association 1982-1987 and 1999-2004. She is currently Treasurer of the III Step Conference and is a Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy Item Writer Coordinator for the National Physical Therapy Examination.
Her previous professional service includes serving as a reviewer of the Journal of Physical Therapy Education and a book reviewer for Physical Therapy. She is an active member in the American Physical Therapy Association. She was awarded the Frances Ekstam Outstanding Leadership Award by the Indiana Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Lucy Blair Service Award by the American Physical Therapy Association.
