Dr. Mac Kinnon has been a physical therapist and educator for over thirty years. She received a BA in zoology from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1972, and a MPT from the US Army-Baylor University Program in ‘74. She began her formal academic teaching in 1977 at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Division of Physical Therapy and received her doctoral degree in higher education administration from North Carolina State University in 1987. She subsequently left North Carolina to become chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, before coming to Indiana University in 1998.
Dr. Mac Kinnon is now Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Indiana University. Her areas of interest are evidenced based medicine and therapeutic outcomes research, and assessment of student learning in higher education. She currently is director of the health sciences programs in the School to include the PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. She is has traveled all over the world, both for her own enjoyment and as part of her professional life, and has most recently been awarded a Fulbright Senior Specialist Grant to return to South Africa to provide educational consultation to the Central University of Technology.
Dr. Mac Kinnon has had numerous internal and external grants in areas such as assessment of student learning, rehabilitation, interdisciplinary education, distance education, and first year student experiences. She has published numerous articles and has made national and international presentations on these topics.
